Three held in connection with woman's murder in Delhi's Bindapur
The Delhi Police has arrested a man and his two friends a day after he allegedly stabbed a 24-year-old woman to death for repeatedly spurning his proposals, officials said on Wednesday. Police said the main accused, Ankit Gaba (24), fractured his legs as he jumped off the second floor of an under-construction building in Dwarka Sector 23 while trying to evade the arrest. Officials said that investigators have not interrogated Gaba as he was admitted to a hospital, adding that things will become clearer only after his questioning. Gaba's two friends --- Himanshu (20) and Manish Sharma --- have also been arrested and they are all residents of southwest Delhi's Uttam Nagar area. (PTI)
Delhi MLAs to hit streets to spread awareness on 'Red Light On, Gaadi Off' campaign
To give further impetus to the "Red Light On, Gaadi Off" campaign, all the MLAs of Delhi will gather at the Chandgi Ram Akhara intersection on Thursday to aware people about the drive to reduce vehicular pollution, Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai said. Rai in a statement said that public participation is key to the success of any government initiative and if two crore people of Delhi contribute responsibly, then vehicle pollution can be reduced by 15 to 20%. LNJP Hospital, other facilities in Delhi ramp up arrangements as dengue cases surge
Amid a steady spike in dengue cases in the national capital, the state-run LNJP Hospital and various other government and private facilities have augmented arrangements to attend to the rising number of patients. Seventeen confirmed and 55 suspected cases of dengue have been reported till Tuesday at the LNJP Hospital, officials said on Wednesday. (PTI)
Rs 81.20 lakh environmental compensation levied against 313 construction sites, 60 vehicles in Delhi
In a stern action against dust norm violators in Delhi, Rs 81.20 lakh has been levied as environmental compensation against 313 construction sites and 60 vehicles from October 1-15, the Centre-appointed Commission for Air Quality Management said on Wednesday. The commission said 1,268 construction and demolition (C&D) sites in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan were inspected by 112 inspection teams between October 1-15, out of which, 955 sites were found complying with the dust mitigation measures and 313 sites flouting the norms. As many as 60 vehicles were found violating the norms regarding transportation of C&D materials during the fortnight. (PTI)

BJP chief Nadda to visit Ghaziabad tomorrow as country set to reach 100-crore vaccination mark

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday slammed the Delhi government for not constructing any government hospital in the Okhla area. Citing a media report about the "non-existence" government-run hospital in the Okhla area, Owaisi in a series of tweets said, "AAP's deshbhakti syllabus: no hospital for Okhla, but weekly Sundar Kand. Servant kidnaps 7-year-old kid in Delhi, arrested in 3 hours
Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping a 7-year-old child from the Gandhi Nagar area in the national capital, an official said here on Wednesday. According to the official, they received a call at the Gandhi Nagar police station at around 5.39pm about a kidnapping incident and the kidnapper was demanding Rs 1.10 crore for the safe release of the child. Three held in connection with murder in Delhi's Bindapur
Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old woman in southwest Delhi's Bindapur area, police said on Wednesday. Those arrested were identified as Ankit Gaba, Manish and Himanshu, they said. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday on Matiala Road and the victim was identified as Dolly Babbar. She was stabbed to death by the accused Gaba.
Delhi govt to pay Rs 50,000 per hectare compensation to farmers
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said an order has been issued for giving compensation of Rs 50,000 per hectare to farmers whose crops have been damaged due to untimely rains in the city. Revenue officials are conducting a survey of the damaged crops and it will be completed within two weeks. The compensation at the rate of Rs 50,000 per hectare will be provided to the farmers within two months, he said in a press briefing.
Delhi L-G transfers 7 IAS officers; Swati Sharma appointed health secretary
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal transferred seven bureaucrats, with senior IAS officer Swati Sharma appointed as health secretary of the Delhi government, an official order stated. Delhi Metro begins training of Dhaka Metro's operations, maintenance personnel
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started the training of the first batch of operations and maintenance staff of Bangladesh's Dhaka Metro at its training academy at Shastri Park Depot. DMRC, in a press release on Tuesday, said that once sent for training in Hong Kong before the inauguration of Metro services in Delhi in 2002, it has reached a 'historical milestone by commencing the training of the first batch of operations and maintenance staff' of Dhaka Metro.
Fuel rates hiked again, petrol at Rs 106.19 a litre in Delhi
Petrol and diesel prices on Wednesday rallied to their highest ever levels across the country, as fuel rates were hiked again by 35 paise a litre after a two-day pause. The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest-ever level of Rs 106.19 a litre and Rs 112.11 per litre in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers. In Mumbai, diesel now comes for Rs 102.89 a litre; while in Delhi, it costs Rs 94.92 a litre.
Delhi records minimum temperature of 20.3 deg C
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 20.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning, two notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said here. The humidity level was recorded at 82 per cent, it said. The weather department has predicted mainly clear skies during the day. The maximum temperature will settle around 31 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
Rs 90L fine on construction sites so far
Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has imposed penalties of Rs 90 lakh after finding violations at 286 construction sites, so far, in the capital. Environment minister Gopal Rai said, under the ongoing anti-dust campaign, DPCC teams had visited 1,105 construction sites. “The norms were found to be followed at most sites. The sites where violation was found have been issued notices by the department and a fine of about Rs 90 lakh has been imposed,” he said, adding that all the teams have been instructed to submit daily reports.

Norms kept at a distance in Delhi’s neighbourhood
Just over half the people in Haryana, or 54.2% of its population, have strictly adhered to social distancing norms — a study done along with the state’s third sero survey has inferred based on responses of people who the surveyors met. Among the rest, 28.7%, which translates to 3 out of 10 people, admitted to never following social distancing and 17.1% claimed they sometimes followed it by avoiding crowded places.
SDMC seals 35 eateries, guesthouses in 10 days
South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has claimed that in the past 10 days, it has sealed 35 eateries and guesthouses for running facilities in violation of norms. The action has been taken in areas under the south zone, including Mahipalpur, eateries near airport and Khel Gaon. The action came a few days after the civic body issued a closure notice to a restaurant at a mall in Khel Gaon for operating without a health trade licence. The restaurant was in the news last month for allegedly denying entry to a saree-clad woman.
