After much anticipation, Google has unveiled the new generation of its Pixel phones called the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google had revealed most of the things about the two phones in an early preview but most of the things were left hidden on purpose, for instance, the Magic Erase feature, 5 years of software updates, and much more. While Google touched most of the aspects in the preview, it elucidated everything only now. Needless to say, Google’s first-ever custom-built chip required a lot more explanation than a mere revelation.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro phones feature a new design, where a bar-shaped module on the back carries three camera sensors. Google touts this approach gives the phone a clean, symmetrical design. Google even says the design is inspired by the finishes you see in luxury jewelry and watches. The phones feature polished metal unibody and metallic frames as well.

On the front, both the Pixel 6 ad Pixel 6 Pro phones feature a hole-punch display. Both the phones are IP68-certified to offer dust and water resistance. Also, both the phones run Android out-of-the-box.

Under the hood, both the phones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are powered by Google’s custom-built Tensor SoC. Google touts its SoC brigs the best of Machine Language (ML) to its Pixel phones. Google explains the Tensor chip unlocks new experiences that require ML as core, including motion Mode, Face Unblur, Speech enhancement mode for videos, and much more.

Tensor is an octa-core processor with two Cortex-X1 powerful cores clocked at 2.8GHz, two mid-range A76 cores at 2.25GHz, and four small, high-efficiency A55 cores at 1.8GHz. This eight-core CPU is integrated with a 20-core Arm Mali-G78 MP20 GPU, a Tensor Processing Unit machine learning engine, and an advanced image signal processor for photography. The Tensor CPU performance is 80% faster and its GPU is 370% faster than the chip in the Pixel 5

Together with Titan M2, Google Tensor security core, and TrustZone running Trusty OS give Pixel 6 phones sensitive data like passwords and PINs.

Magic Eraser

Both the phones feature the Magic Erase feature that helps remove unwanted objects and people photo-bombing your picture.

The phones are also preloaded with features including Motion Mode that brings preset Action Pan and Long Exposure options and Real Tone that claims to offer accurate colors. The phones also include Face Unblur and Manual white balancing, among other Google's exclusive camera-focused features.

Live Translate

The two phones also feature Live Translate, which can translate messages, captions, or text in the camera viewfinder in up to 55 languages. Using Tensor, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro can act as an Interpreter in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or Spanish, fully offline.

The real difference between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro starts to appear in the display and camera configuration. While the Pixel 6 gets a dual-camera setup that houses a 50MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, the Pixel 6 Pro gets triple rear cameras with a 48MP telephoto lens in addition to the other two sensors. The telephotos shooter on the Pro model is touted to offer 20x Super Res Zoom.

Also, on the front, the Pixel 6 gets an 8MP camera, while the Pixel 6 Pro has an 11.1MP selfie camera.

The Pixel 6 features a 6.4-inch full HD+ OLED display that has a 90Hz refresh rate and the Pro models get a slightly larger screen – 6.7-inch and QHD+ panel.
