    Union Home Minister Amit Shah undertook an aerial survey of the rain-ravaged areas of Uttarakhand on Thursday as relief and rescue operations continued in the worst-hit Kumaon region amid efforts to restore connectivity and evacuate people from vulnerable areas. He will be meeting CM Dhami shortly.

    Amit Shah Arrives In Uttarakhand To Undertake Aerial Survey Of Rain-Hit Regions

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Dehradun late on Wednesday to take stock of the situation in the rain-ravaged parts of Uttarakhand where three days of rain have left 52 persons dead, roads, bridges and railway tracks damaged and crops destroying the standing crop. Shah was received by the CM Dhami and other ministers at Jolly Grant airport.

    17 Trekkers From Uttarakhand Go Missing In Kinnaur

    Seventeen trekkers who arrived in Himachal Pradesh from the state have gone missing in the Kinnaur district. According to a senior official, the trekkers had left Harshil in adjoining Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi for Chitkul in HP's Kinnaur on October 14. However, the group reportedly went missing after October 17 during a patch of hostile weather in Lamkhaga pass which lasted till October 19.

    92 Out Of 96 Stranded Persons From Karnataka Safe

    As many as 96 persons from Karnataka are stranded in Uttarakhand following heavy floods and landslides, of which 92 are confirmed safe, an official said. Three persons are marooned in Badrinath and are incommunicado. The fourth missing person from Karnataka is a soldier with the Border Security Force.

    Dalai Lama Expresses Concern

     The Dalai Lama wrote to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressing his deep sadness about the loss of lives and the hardship caused to many people following heavy rainfall in the hill state. “I offer my condolences to those who have lost loved ones, and pray for them. I also pray for the safety and well-being of people still reportedly trapped under debris and in flooded areas," the Dalai Lama wrote in the letter.

    Eleven Persons On Trek To Chitkul Go Missing

    Eight trekkers and three cooks accompanying them on a trek to Chitkul have gone missing. The team of eleven people, comprising seven tourists from Kolkata and one from Delhi, was on a trek to Chitkul via Harsil in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.

    Situation Still Serious: Rahul Gandhi

    Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said the situation in Uttarakhand is still serious.  "My condolences to the Uttarakhand flood victims. The situation is still serious. Do follow the safety norms. My appeal to my Congress colleagues is to extend all possible help in the relief work," Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

    Nainital: Respite From Rain After Two Days, Tourists Venture Out

    Nainital is returning back to normalcy  after being battered by rains which cut off the place from the rest of Uttarakhand, inundated its roads and kept visitors confined to their hotel rooms.  By Wednesday morning, Most of the water had receded from the roads in Nainital, where movement had become nearly impossible after a the Naini lake overflowed.

    NDRF Rescues Over 1,300 People From Flood-Affected Areas

    The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rescued more than 1,300 people from flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand and has enhanced its rescue teams from 15 to 17.  "So far, NDRF rescuers have evacuated more than 1,300 stranded people from Udham Singh Nagar and Nanital. They are also distributing relief material in flood affected areas of Uttarakhand," an NDRF spokesperson said.

    NDRF Rescues Over 300 Persons

    The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rescued over 300 people from flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand, the federal force said. The NDRF has deployed 15 teams in the state, where 16 people have died in rain-related incidents so far. The Kumaon region of the hill state has been severely hit by heavy rains, leading to razing of houses and leaving many trapped in the debris.
