United and Honeywell have announced a joint multimillion-dollar investment in Alder Fuel which is a cleantech company that is trying to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by using biomass and other waste.
Alder will also use forest and crop waste, drop-in replacement crude oil, and sustainable low-carbon that can be used to produce aviation fuel. According to the terms and conditions of the agreement, United has to purchase 1.5 billion gallons of SAF from Alder. According to Scott Kirby, CEO, United, since the time United has announced green commitment, it is focused on decarbonizing without relying on the use of traditional carbon. He also said that this commitment also means that SAF usage and availability will also increase as it is the fastest way to reduce emissions.
As per Darius Adamczyk, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Honeywell, as Honeywell is a pioneer of the SAF market with UOP Ecofining™ technology, its work is to help transform the industry as well as the growth of a zero-carbon economy while working with both United and Alder.
As per Bryan Sherbacow, CEO, Alder Fuels and senior advisor to World Energy, the greatest technology challenges are faced by Aviation in terms of addressing climate change and SAF. But to meet this demand, the raw material is insufficient.
