Bandh evokes partial response in AP, Senior TDP leaders detained

Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) The bandh call given by the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh evoked partial response and normal life remained unaffected across the state on Wednesday.

The TDP gave the bandh call in protest against the attacks on the party offices and on the house of its National spokesperson on Tuesday.

All the commercial establishments and government offices were remained open.

The APSRTC buses were plying as usual. However, many educational institutions remained closed today.

The bandh evoked lukewarm response and no untoward incidents have taken place from anywhere of the state so far.

Meanwhile, the police detained most of the senior TDP leaders at their residences and did not allow them to go out to enforce the bandh.

The detentions of TDP leaders in their homes began after midnight and no TDP leader could come out of their houses this morning across the state.

TDP state president and MLA K Atchannaidu was detained at his house in Srikakulam district.

TDP MLC Buddha Venkanna came out of his house here by wielding a stick and stated that he would retaliate if the YSRCP activists attacked him.

The police whisked the MLC to the police station. TDP activists led by their leaders staged darnas in front of APSRTC bus stations but the police whisked them away to police stations.

Some TDP activists were seen trying to enforce bandh by taking out rallies in various places across the state but the police prevented them.

The ruling YSRCP activists burnt the effigy of former Chief Minister and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Guntur.

TDP party flags were also burnt by the YSRCP activists and such incidents took place in many districts.

It may be mentioned here that a large number of YSRCP activists attacked the house of TDP national spokesperson Pattabhiram last evening and vandalized the furniture, TV, gadgets and car.

Later the YSRCP activists attacked the state TDP office NTR Bhavan, located at Mangalagiri near here, and damaged the furniture, smashed glasses and damaged cars, parked in the vicinity.

Furious over the attacks, Mr Naidu had called for the bandh in the state.
