With the road to electrification being the trend in today’s automotive industry, we’ve seen plenty of EVs break track records, as well as range records in recent times. Now, the Volkswagen ID.4 enters the Guinness World Record books, as the electric SUV has set the record for the longest journey by an EV (non-solar powered).
The record run was set in the US, where long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow and photographer Derek Collins set off from Herndon, Virginia with the VW ID.4 and covered more than 35,000 miles (56,327km) around the country in almost 100 days, before ending their trip at Volkswagen’s US headquarters at Herndon, VA. The trip also had the pair visit 628 Volkswagen dealerships across 48 states, with the SUV making 208 stops at Electrify America charging stations.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is powered by a rear axle-mounted electric motor making 204PS, and juiced up by a 77 kWh battery pack. The SUV claims to do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 160kmph. As for range, it boasts a WLTP-claimed 520km.
There’s no word on whether Volkswagen will bring the ID.4 electric SUV to India, though its range alone would keep it competitive against the likes of the Mercedes EQC, Audi e-tron and the Jaguar I-Pace.
