
Oil continues to be on the boil this festive season. In Delhi, petrol and diesel rates are up 35 paise to hit Rs 106.19 and Rs 94.92 per litre respectively. The revision comes after two days of pause in rates.
Fuel prices are now at fresh all-time high after a surge in global crude rates.
In Mumbai, a litre of petrol now costs Rs 112.11, and diesel at Rs 102.89 per litre. In Chennai, petrol is being sold at Rs 103.31 per litre. Among the four metros, fuel rates are highest in Mumbai. The rates vary across the states due to VAT.
Petrol now costs 33 per cent more than the price at which aviation turbine fuel (ATF) is sold to airlines. ATF in Delhi costs Rs 79,020.16 per kilolitre or Rs 79 per litre. The costliest fuel is in the border town of Ganganagar in Rajasthan where petrol comes for Rs 117.86 a litre and diesel for Rs 105.95.
The Centre is in talks with several oil-exporting countries on the issue of supply and demand of oils but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices.
Since September 5, when both petrol and diesel prices were revised, the price of petrol and diesel in the international market is higher by around $9-10 per barrel as compared to the average prices during August.
