25-year-old man shoots self after killing woman in Dadri

GREATER NOIDA: A 25-year-old youth allegedly shot dead a 20-year-old woman with a country-made pistol before turning it on himself on a busy Dadri road on Tuesday, police said.
The man, police said, was allegedly in a relationship with the woman and was upset after her family arranged her marriage with another person.
Around 5 pm on Tuesday, when the woman, Anu, had gone to purchase some medicines with her sister, the accused, Bunty, intercepted her. He allegedly tried to talk to the woman, but when she refused to listen to him, Bunty allegedly shot her in the head, killing her on the spot, police said. The accused then shot at himself on his temple, police added.Bunty is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital after he was referred from a private hospital where the duo was initially rushed, police added. His condition is stated to be serious.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said that Bunty and Anu were neighbours at the Gautampuri colony of Dadri before the woman’s family shifted to a different locality. Her family, police said, was opposed to their relationship.
“The woman’s marriage was fixed with another youth and she was supposed to get married in December. Bunty had been trying to convince her otherwise but apparently, she was not ready to go against the wishes of her family,” a senior police officer told TOI. DCP (Greater Noida) Abhishek Jha said that the woman’s family could not be quizzed as they were inconsolable but said that Anu and Bunty knew each other well. Meanwhile, videos of the incident have emerged on social media.
