Italian freight forwarder Savino Del Bene will launch a charter operation between the US and Italy in response to capacity shortages.

The peak-season service will begin on October 23 and operate between Milan Malpensa and New York JFK utilising a B767-300F operated by Cargojet Airways.

The company said that it had decided to add the weekly flights in response to congestion in air and ocean.

“We have experienced the decrease of passenger flights, the cut of cargo flights by carriers, and the highly congested maritime transportation which has turned into a lack of airfreight capacity and increased the pressure on international freight transportation which has created a difficult situation with the supply chain of the manufacturing companies,” the forwarder explained.

“During this situation, Savino Del Bene supports the import and export trade between Italy and the United States during the peak season due to the introduction of new weekly charter flight services.”
