Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has announced he is forming his own political party and that he is ready for a seat arrangement with the BJP for the upcoming Punjab elections.
"The battle for Punjab's future is on. Will soon announce the launch of my own political party to serve the interests of Punjab and its people, including our farmers," tweeted Singh's media advisor on Tuesday night.
Singh said he was hopeful of a seat arrangement with the BJP in the 2022 polls if the farmer protest "is solved in farmers' interest''.
The announcement did not catch anyone by surprise as Singh had recently revealed in interviews that he was leaving the Congress and going his own way, but not joining the BJP.
In fact, most political watchers had predicted a similar move when Singh went to Delhi September-end and met Amit Shah -- to talk about farmer protests among other things -- soon after he fell out bitterly with the Congress leadership.
