An extraordinarily buff looking Fernando Torres was spotted patrolling the touchline as his Atletico Madrid side beat Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League.
The former Anfield favourite was famously known as ‘El Nino’ (The Kid) during his playing career, but now looks anything but youthful after spending his post-playing career in the gym, while earning his coaching badges.
Torres retired in 2019 after a brief stint with Japanese side Sagan Tosu, and has since returned to the place where it all started, joining Atleti as a youth team coach.
And it’s clear he’s also spent a lot of time since then working on his new muscular physique, with his biceps bulging on the touchline.
Torres became a legend at Liverpool with 81 goals in 142 games between 2007 and 2011, but later tarnished that reputation when he joined Chelsea in a £50million deal.
The Spanish World Cup winner returned to Atleti in 2015, but his second spell ultimately ended in heartbreak with a Champions League final loss to bitter rivals Real Madrid in 2016.
He’s now back to make amends as a coach, and has racked up one of his best results yet since taking the job in July.
The 37-year-old’s Under-19 side ran out 2-0 winners on the day with an all-Spanish line-up thanks to goals from Aitor Gismera and Salim El Jebari.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea and AC Milan striker is yet to obtain a UEFA Pro Licence, but that didn’t stop him from dominating the dugout alongside registered coach Ricardo Marcos.
Torres stepped up to the job as head coach this season after serving as an assistant for the last campaign.
On being given the job Torres said: “I’m proud and happy to be returning home.
“It’s an exciting challenge I’ve got in front of me and we’ll give everything we can to continue to serve our club.”
We’d say that sooner or later he might be muscling in on Diego Simeone’s role as first-team manager.
