Punjab : Guv greets people on Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti

Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Banwarilal Purohit extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti to the people and advocated the need to put in concerted efforts for the socio-economic empowerment of the under privileged sections of our society, here on Tuesday.



Describing Maharishi Valmiki Ji as a great sage and a poet, he said, adding that values such as peace and virtue, he conveyed through his colossal work, are relevant to society even today.

He also said that sacred epic Ramayana authored by Maharishi Valmiki Ji sets out the path of ideal and virtuous living, universal humanism and the oneness of mankind.

As a social reformer and messiah of the downtrodden, the unparalleled contribution of Maharishi Valmiki Ji in emphasizing the concept of social justice, equality and emancipation of oppressed groups will always be remembered, he added.



He appealed to the people to inculcate teachings of Maharishi Valmiki Ji in their lives and stand for socio-economic empowerment of all, especially the oppressed and downtrodden.

Barwani, MP, Oct 19 (UNI) A Station House Officer was among ten persons injured in violence that followed playing of a ‘controversial’ song during a religious procession taken out without permission in Rajpur town on Tuesday.
“After the music system was seized, the processionists pelted stones at shops and people, who retaliated. Following complaints by both sides, cases were registered against about 50 individuals,” Additional Superintendent of Police RD Prajapati said.
