Aizawl: Though the number of daily new Covid-19 cases plummeted to 249 during the past 24 hours due to closure of the lone
RT-PCR laboratory in
Zoram Medical College hospital on Sunday,
Mizoram continued to top the daily infected figures among the 8 NE states and accounted for 37.16% of the new cases in the entire region.
The state also has the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases among the states of the region for the 56th consecutive day, while it contributed 69.86% of the number of active cases in the northeast as on Monday morning.
Five people died in the state during the past 24 hours, raising the Covid-19 related deaths to 388, which is 0.34 per cent of the total infected cases of 1,12,848.
The recovery rate improved steadily and was placed at 90.11% as on Monday evening with a total number of 1,01,691 people being reported as free from the infection.
In the meanwhile, state health minister Dr R
Lalthangliana on Monday announced that the ongoing ten-day “All Mask Campaign” to be concluded on Wednesday was extended till the end of the month. Lalthangliana said the campaign had been bearing fruits as the number of new infected people had declined and the mass awareness about the importance of wearing masks would be intensified during the extended period.
Conduct of Covid-19 tests on symptom-based approach, as suggested by the state-level expert team on Covid-19 management and being adopted by the WHO and the ICMR, would also be implemented soon, he said.
He added that the
Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail (MAC), which had been extremely popular for treatment of Covid-19 patients who had undergone renal transplant as well as older people having comorbidities, should be made available for the rural folks by ensuring the availability of the
MAC in all district hospitals.
