Melbourne, Oct 19 (UNI) World No.1 tennis star Novak Djokovic Tuesday said he is unsure of defending his Australian Open title in Melbourne in January as he does not want to reveal his status on vaccination.
"Things begin as they are, I still don’t know if I will go to Melbourne. I will not reveal my status whether I have been vaccinated or not," he said as quoted by the online edition of Serbian daily Blic.
He said vaccination is a private matter and it is an inappropriate inquiry to make.
"People go too far these days in taking the liberty to ask questions and judge a person. Whatever you say yes, no, maybe, I am thinking about it, they will take advantage," Djokovic said.
Djokovic was reacting to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' statement that he doesn't think an unvaccinated tennis player will get a visa to enter Australia.
"If they did get a visa they would probably have to quarantine for a couple of weeks," he said.
"I don't think that the person you indicated (Djokovic) or any other tennis player, let's not personalise it ... or golfer or Formula One driver will even get a visa to get here. If I am wrong I am sure the federal government will let you know," Andrews said.
The virus does not care what tennis ranking is, or how many Grand Slams the players have won. It is completely irrelevant and one needs to be vaccinated to keep yourself safe and to keep others safe, he said.
