EMS provider Lite-On Technology has obtained orders for photo couplers with shipments scheduled until the end of the first quarter of 2022, according to company president Anson Chiu.
Lite-On's optoelectronics business mainly consists of photo couplers, LED-based sensors and lighting devices/products, with respective CAGR during 2021-2024 forecast at 10-15%, 25-30% and 10-15%.
As shipments for some of automotive electronics, PC-use devices and consumer electronics will be deferred from the third quarter originally scheduled to the following quarter and demand for automotive electronics and devices used in cloud computing remains strong, fourth-quarter 2021 consolidated revenues are expected to increase significantly, Chiu said at an October 18 investors conference.
Automotive electronics, especially those used in charging piles for electric vehicles (EV), and devices used in 5G will be the main source of business growth in 2022, Chiu noted. Lite-On has joined the O-RAN Alliance and developed RAN-based devices for use in 5G base stations, with small-volume shipments to begin at year-end 2021, Chiu indicated.
To cope power supply restrictions in China, Lite-On has had factories in China equipped with generators and will add automation equipment on a long-term basis, Chiu said. Although factories in China will not be substantially impacted by power supply restrictions for the time being, such restrictions are likely to be frequent or even normal in the future, and Lite-On will solve the problem through speeding up expansion of production capacities outside China, especially in Thailand and Vietnam, Chiu indicated.
IT product lines and consumer electronics including power supplies used in servers, PCs and mobile devices as well as PC peripherals and MFPs (multi-function peripherals) accounted for 51.52% of third-quarter 2021 consolidated revenues of NT$41.864 billion (US$1.50 billion); optoelectronics product lines including automotive CCMs (compact camera modules), LED devices and lighting products for 20.02%; and devices used in cloud computing, data centers, servers, networking/communication equipment, smart devices, IoT and AI application for 28.47%.
