Panaji: Government data has revealed that there are a number of unfilled posts in the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/ Other Backward Class / Economically Weaker Section and Person with Disability reserved categories in the government departments.
In a written reply presented before the state assembly on Tuesday, Minister for Social Welfare Milind Naik shared data on backlog of reserved vacancies in all government departments.
The data on backlog in vacancies show that out of total 424 vacant posts under the reserved categories, 14 vacancies are under SC category, 98 in ST category, 199 in OBC category while 75 unfilled posts in economically weaker section category and 38 posts for person with disability.
According to the data, out of 38 government departments, 18 departments have shown ‘nil’ vacant posts under reserved categories. For all five categories, the most number of unfilled vacant posts are in directorate of animal husbandry, South Goa Collectorate office, and the transport department.
The highest number of unfilled posts are for the OBC category with 61 posts vacant in directorate of animal husbandry, 28 in SC and ST category and 51 in economically-weaker section category while 10 unfilled positions in Person with Disability category.
Similarly, South Collectorate office has backlog of 33 posts under OBC reserved category, 29 in SC and ST category, one in economically weaker section category and three posts lying vacant for person with disability.
As per the data from the social welfare department, the backlog vacancies in transport department is third highest with 23 vacant posts under economically weaker section category, 16 in OBC, three unfilled posts for person with disability reserved category, two under ST category, and one in SC category.
The directorate of women and child development has 19 unfilled pots in ST category and 26 under OBC category. While the Inspectorate General of Prisons has 36 unfilled vacant posts of which 23 are in OBC category, 12 in SC/ST and one in person with disability reserved category.
While replying to a question tabled by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on percentage of reservation for the Bhandari Samaj in OBC category for promotion in different categories posts, the minister replied that there is no specific reservation in individual community in OBC category and also there is no reservation in promotion for OBC category as per government guidelines.
