Mahindra Thar is a huge success for the homegrown manufacturer. Owners of Thar always want to make their SUV unique. This has been the case with every generation of the Thar. Here, we have a Thar that has been given a makeover.
The pictures are shared by Annkush Sahai on Facebook and the modifications were done by Accessories the Shoppe. The modifications done by the shop are cosmetic as well as functional. There are upgrades to the exterior as well as the interior of the SUV.
We can see that the Thar is finished in a bright yellow colour. It has not been repainted, the SUV has been wrapped. The front grille has been repainted. There is an off-road spec bumper installed on the SUV. It has projector fog lamps integrated into them.

There is also a radiator protection shield installed as we can see in the pictures, it is also finished in the same yellow colour. This was important as many Thar owners have reported that the radiator got damaged while off-roading and they had to replace the entire unit. So, people are getting shields to protect the radiator.
The halogen circular headlamps are now replaced with all LED units and it also comes with reflector lights. The customization shop has also added a snorkel to improve the water wading capacity.
The interior upgrades include seat covers with thigh support and yellow stitching. The steering wheel is also wrapped and comes with yellow stitching. The stock speakers are replaced with speakers from Morel. Moreover, it now comes with front and rear armrests. The shop has not made any changes to the engine or the gearbox of the SUV.
Engine and gearbox
Mahindra offers the Thar with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Both the engines comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. A four-wheel drive powertrain and a low range gearbox comes standard on both the engines and gearboxes.
The petrol engine produces 150 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The torque output is bumped up to 320 Nm if you get the automatic transmission. The diesel engine produces 130 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque.
Prices and variants
The prices of Thar starts at Rs. 12.78 lakhs ex-showroom and goes upto Rs. 15.08 lakhs ex-showroom There are two trims in which the Thar is sold. There is AX(O) and LX. It is offered with a convertible soft top and a factory fitted hardtop. Now, the SUV is offered only with front facing rear seats.
Rivals
Thar does not have any direct rivals. Yes, there is the Force Gurkha but it is a hardcore off-roader whereas the Thar now is much more civilized, comfortable and refined. The Gurkha starts at Rs. 13.59 lakhs ex-showroom. The upcoming Jimny will also go against the Thar when it gets launched next year.
