Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured the state legislative assembly of providing alternate land for the kiosk owners and fruit vendors evicted from the vicinity of the Goa Medical College and Hospital complex, at Bambolim, earlier this year.
Replying to the Zero Hour mention by the St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes on the opening day of the two-day assembly session, Sawant said that the North Goa Collector will take a related decision within the next 8 days, as regards allotment of the land to 33 kiosk owners and 16 fruit vendors.
“Five other kiosks set up under the Deen Dayal Swayam Rojgar Yojana have been allotted alternate place as per a court order,” he added, pointing out, “Only those who operate the kiosk and not those who have sublet them, would get an alternate space.”
Replying to another Zero Hour Mention by the Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai as regards fishing activities, Minister for Fisheries Filipe Neri Rodrigues said that the government has taken proper action on activities like bull trawling by fishing boats.
“We will not allow illegal fishing by any outside fishing boats,” he added.
Earlier, Sardesai brought to the notice of the House that the fishing community in Goa is facing difficulties as the fishing boats from the neighbouring states are bull trawling in Goan waters and thus depriving the local fishermen from fish haul.
Yet another Zero Hour mention by the Porvorim legislator Rohan Khaunte requested the government to implement prospectively, its decision as regards increase in the stamp duty for deed of conveyance, especially applicable to the registration of housing societies.
Minister for Law and Judiciary Nilesh Cabral, in his reply, said that the people who have given stamp duty money to the builders towards purchase of apartments, is yet to be passed to the government. “We will examine these issues,” he added.
Another Zero Hour mention from the Madkai MLA Ramakrishna Dhavalikar requested the government to revive the Bhausaheb Bandodkar football stadium at Campal, in Panaji, which was now used for parking of vehicles, display of fireworks and so on.
Minister for Sports Manohar Ajgaonkar said that Dhavalikar was drawing political mileage from the stadium, in view of the forthcoming state assembly elections.
Evicted vendors protest outside St Cruz MLA’s residence
Santa Cruz: Vendors who were evicted from near the Goa Medical College and Hospital premises at Bambolim, on Monday staged a silent morcha in front of the residence of St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes and demanded that the government rehabilitate them at the earliest.
The St Cruz MLA, who met the distressed kiosk owners, promised that he would raise the issue in the Assembly.
