Mum is slammed for secretly feeding meat and eggs to her daughter's vegan friend - but she claims it's for a 'good reason'

  • A mother has been slammed for serving meat to her daughter's vegan friend
  • The 12-year-old follows a strict vegan diet that her family 'never waivers from'
  • But when she sleeps over, she gorges on burgers, steak, eggs and bacon
  • The mother said she believes the 'sickly' girl looks healthier when she leaves
  • But thousands blasted her for the move, saying it is not her decision to make

A mother has been slammed for plying her daughter's vegan friend with burgers, milk and bacon - without her parents' permission.

The 12-year-old girl follows a 'strict' plant-based diet that her family 'never waivers from', but it's a different story when she sleeps over at her friend's house.

The woman, who is believed to live in New Zealand, said she believes the 'sickly' pre-teen looks healthier every time she leaves after gorging on things like scrambled eggs and jerky.

But hundreds blasted her for the move, saying it is not her place to dictate what a child who is not her own should eat.

'Her parents are nice people although a bit on the neurotic side. She's a good friend to my daughter, but I noticed how much smaller and paler she is compared to my daughter - I think it's likely tied to her family's diet,' the mum wrote on Reddit.

'For snacks I give them some of my venison jerky. For breakfast I typically make a big plate of scrambled eggs and bacon again with a big glass of milk.'

She added: 'I have to say, every time she leaves it looks like she has a healthy glow to her.'

While she admitted to overstepping the mark, the mum said she genuinely believes the girl should be eating meat and dairy to maintain a balanced diet.

'I know I probably shouldn't be doing this but I think she is a bit malnourished (nothing against vegans or anything). She knows she'll get in big trouble if she tells her folks. (I think she fibs a bit to her parents about what she eats,' she wrote.

'Am I the a*****e for for letting my daughter's vegan friend eat meat?'

The post swiftly racked up more than 1,300 comments, with many criticising the mother for being 'way out of line'.

One woman said: '"I think she's a bit malnourished" is where I deemed you the a*****e.'

She continued: 'You are absolutely judging her family, and her family's diet, and you are doing this out of some misguided form of activism. You think you're the hero here saving her from some injustice.'

Others pointed out that the girl could be vegan for health reasons, while some felt she was old enough at 12 to choose what she eats herself.

'I had a relative do an elimination diet when she was sick and found not eating meat made her feel a lot better. It wasn't a moral choice to go vegan, it was because it made her body feel better,' one person said.

Another added: 'You're not gonna make enough of a difference to where you can see a healthy glow that wasn't there before, after a sleepover. If there's actually a glow, it's probably just because she's happy after having an amazing time with her friend!'
