Jack Grealish 'could be quizzed by cops as a witness in rape case after clubbing with Man City team-mate Benjamin Mendy hours before ''attack'''

  • Benjamin Mendy, 27, faces four counts of rape and one of sexual assault
  • Hours before the alleged incident he was seen with with Grealish and Mahrez
  • The police could contact the Man City footballers as potential witnesses
  • There is no suggestion they had any involvement in the alleged assault

Manchester City star Jack Grealish partied with teammate Benjamin Mendy on the same night the French defender allegedly raped a teenager, it has today been reported.

The star, who moved to the Premier League champions for a record-breaking £100million fee in August, is reported to have joined the defender and teammate Riyad Mahrez at a Manchester club on the night as the alleged sex attack.

Mendy, 27, a World Cup winner with France, is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at his Cheshire home later that evening.

There is no suggestion that either player was involved in the incident or were present at Mendy's home at the time.

However, according to the Sun, the two midfielders could be contacted by police as potential witnesses to help the investigation.

Mendy is charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against three alleged victims between October 2020 and August 2021.

According to the Sun, Grealish, 26, and Mahrez, 30, were seen at members-only nightclub Chinawhite in Manchester with Mendy on the evening of August 23.

It is alleged, in one of the allegations, that Mendy raped a 17-year-old girl in his house in the early hours of August 23.

A source told The Sun: 'They started socialising at one place and carried on to a couple of different venues during the night.

'But Grealish and Mahrez did not go back to Mendy's house on the night.'

The World Cup winner was remanded in custody ahead of a trial next year at Chester crown court on September 10.

Manchester City has also suspended the £52million left back, who signed from French side Monaco in 2017, pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

A second man was also charged by police investigating allegations of sexual assault against Mendy.
