ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Football Team on Friday ruled out five players for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs — including wide receiver Curtis Samuel (groin) and right tackle Sam Cosmi (ankle).

Samuel, set to miss his fourth game of the year, has been dealing with a groin issue all season and played only five snaps in last weekend’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. Cosmi, meanwhile, was hurt in the first half of that game and did not practice this week.

In addition to Cosmi and Samuel, guard Brandon Scherff (knee), linebacker Jared Norris (stinger) and wideout Cam Sims (hamstring) were ruled out.

Washington also made a surprising addition to the injury report — listing star wideout Terry McLaurin as questionable with a hamstring injury. McLaurin did not practice Friday after participating earlier in the week.

Coach Ron Rivera, however, said McLaurin was held out as an “abundance of caution.” He said the wide receiver told the training staff that he felt some tightness in the hamstring and so the team had the 26-year-old focus on treatment. McLaurin was seen doing rehab exercises on the side field in the portion of practice open to the media.

Rivera compared the situation to the team’s handling of running back Antonio Gibson, who has been listed as questionable with a shin injury the past few weeks, but has played each week. He added that McLaurin participated in the team’s walkthrough.

“If we were concerned, we wouldn’t have had him come outside and doing anything,” Rivera said. “This is an abundance of caution and the nice thing is we’ve got two days to make sure everything is fine with him.”

McLaurin was listed as questionable alongside Gibson, wide receiver Dyami Brown (knee) and tight end Sammis Reyes (back).
