New Hyundai Tucson scoops 2022 Carbuyer Car Of The Year award

The striking Hyundai Tucson SUV has won the big one in our sister title’s Best Car Awards 2022

The Hyundai Tucson SUV has been awarded the Carbuyer Car Of The Year for 2022, as part of our sister site’s annual celebration of the best new cars on sale.

Hyundai’s bold new design language clearly made a good first impression, but the Tucson was also praised for its interior and driving experience. The latest Hyundai Tucson has a much more high-tech interior than its predecessor, plus a better selection of quality materials.

Four versions of the Tucson are available, all based around a 1.6-litre petrol engine with varying degrees of electrification. The standard engine is joined by mild-hybrid, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, although Hyundai has so far stopped short of selling a fully electric one. The Tucson is also one of the few family SUVs to be good to drive, as well.

Carbuyer has awarded its Best Family Car and Best Hybrid Car gongs to the Tucson, too, while Hyundai is also celebrating the i20 N’s Best Hot Hatchback win and two awards for the Ioniq 5 electric SUV.

Hyundai’s UK Managing Director, Ashley Andrew, said, “To win six awards including overall Car of the Year for our best-selling Tucson is another outstanding result for Hyundai and is testament to the design, quality, capability and value offered by our current model line-up.

“Our continued investment in new products and new technologies has enabled us to provide a comprehensive range of models to suit all customer requirements and as the awards continue to roll in, our customers can feel reassured that they are making the right decision when choosing Hyundai.”

Elsewhere, the Ford Fiesta won the Carbuyer 2022 Used Car Of The Year award, in a ceremony that covered 19 categories. Read the full list of winners here.

The Hyundai Tucson also won the Auto Express Mid-size SUV Of the Year 2021; click here to find out more.
