Google has officially confirmed that the Android 12 dessert name is Snow Cone. The announcement was made by Dave Burke, Vice President of Android, through a tweet. This is not the first time we are hearing that the Android version has a dessert name but it is for the first time in the last two years that the name has been confirmed publically.
It was in 2019 when Google announced its decision to publically release new Android versions using just numbers and no dessert names. This is the reason while the general public refers to the previous two versions as simply Android 10 and Android 11, they did have names based on desserts i.e. Queen Cake and Red Velvet Cake respectively. However, these names were used internally and never used in marketing material or public usage.

There has also been a tradition where Google puts up a physical Android statue featuring the dessert after which the latest version is named. This trend was also stopped when the public revelation of the dessert name was halted. It is unknown whether we will see a Snow Cone statue in front of Google headquarters.
As for the Android 12 public release, it is still a few weeks away. Google has already made the AOSP build available but it will land on Pixel devices in the next few weeks. We do know that the Pixel 6 series will go official on October 19th which is likely the day the new Android version will become available for smartphones.
