COIMBATORE: A man who was summoned to the Mangalam police station in Tirupur district for an inquiry consumed poison and died in a hospital later.
The deceased has been identified as Shanmugam, 41, of Paramasivampalayam near Mangalam.
A police officer in Tirupur said Shanmugam had a property-related dispute with his relative, Santhamani. There was a quarrel between him and the woman. In a fit of rage, he drove his car and hit her. The woman escaped without any major injuries. She lodged a complaint with the Mangalam police.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered against Shanmugam on Monday. The police had summoned Shanmugam for an inquiry. Shanmugam went to the station on Tuesday with his mother. As he reached the station, he vomited even before entering the building. His mother screamed for help.
The police admitted him to Tirupur Government Hospital, where he did not cooperate with the doctors for treatment. He died in the hospital on the same day.
