Stock market update: Power stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Indowind Energy(up 4.93%), Reliance Power(up 4.81%), NTL(up 4.55%), Karma Energy(up 3.31%), Orient Green Power Company(up 2.99%), Indo Tech Transformers(up 2.92%), Gujarat Industries Power(up 2.86%), PTC India(up 2.73%), Adani Transmissions(up 2.72%) and NLC India(up 1.59%) stood among the top gainers.

Energy Development Company(down 4.89%), Adani Power(down 4.65%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(down 3.72%), Suzlon Energy(down 3.52%), K.P.I. Global Infras(down 3.07%), ABBPP&SLTD(down 2.38%), DPSC(down 2.37%), JSW Energy(down 2.08%), Tata Power Company(down 1.92%) and Torrent Power(down 1.83%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 176.3 points down at 17646.0, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 555.15 points at 59189.73.

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 2.72%), TATA CONSUMER PRODUCTS(up 2.4%), UPL Ltd(up 1.77%), Britannia Industries(up 1.45%), HDFC Bank(up 1.22%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 0.75%), HDFC(up 0.35%), Indian Oil Corporation(up 0.15%) and Bajaj Finance(up 0.14%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, SBI Life(down 3.95%), Hindalco Industries(down 3.92%), IndusInd Bank(down 3.14%), JSW Steel(down 2.96%), Tata Steel(down 2.81%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 2.68%), Tata Motors(down 2.58%), Coal India(down 2.58%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(down 2.43%) and Bajaj Auto(down 2.43%) closed in the red.
