155 govt ITIs will be upgraded: Minister

Hubballi: Higher education minister C N Ashwath Narayan visited Karnataka German Technology Training Institute and inspected the renovation work at the automobile workshop at Government ITI College here on Tuesday.
The minister also directed the officials to get the workshop ready for inauguration next month. “The government has come forward to upgrade 155 government ITI colleges in Karnataka with the help of Tatas to impart skill development training among students and to create jobs,” he said.
According to sources, three government ITI colleges — the ones in Hubballi, Kalghatagi and Dharwad — are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 96 lakh each. Nirmiti Kendra is taking up their renovation and upgradation works.
District skill development officer Chandrappa said that training will be beneficial to students. Two-year skill training will be given to the students of ITI government colleges. Advanced equipment will be set up by the Tatas, he said.
MLA Arvind Bellad and others accompanied the minister during his visit.
