The detention of Congress general secretary in charge of UP, Priyanka Vadra, and MP Deepender Hooda for the second consecutive day drew strong condemnation from party leaders, who termed the arrest "illegal".

As crowd of Congress workers swelled outside the PAC Guest House in Sitapur where Vadra and Hooda had been detained since the wee hours of Monday, an FIR naming Vadra, Hooda, Rajasthan Congress leader Dheeraj Gurjar, UP Congress chief Ajay Lallu and others was filed under section 107/16 of the PC at the Hargaon police station, according to an ANI report.

Vadra had been under arrest since 4:30 am on Monday while she was on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri. She said she was not allowed to meet her legal counsel who was standing at the gate.

Hooda said if they were in police custody, they should have been produced before a magistrate within 24 hours as mandated under section 155."Priyanka has today spoken to some family members of the victims over the phone. We have permission to use phones. Physically we are not allowed to go...," Hooda told ANI.
