PANAJI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of light to moderate rainfall/thundershowers in the state till October 9. Light fog or haze is also likely in the early morning at isolated places till October 6, the IMD said in its forecast.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred at many places over Goa on Tuesday with some places experiencing thundershowers and lightning. Rainfall of 3cm was recorded at the Sanquelim station while Sanguem received 1cm.
Strong wind brought down a palm tree at Tisk-Usgao in Ponda taluka. A car parked at some distance was damaged. Ponda central fire station personnel said that the car owner has claimed an estimated loss of Rs 85,000.
Ponda fire station sub officer Rajesh Talwar said that the tree broke in the middle and that the strong wind that preceded the rain caused it to be flung at a distance.
