Bonus for railway staff, boost for textile sector: Key decisions by Union Cabinet

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday announced certain key decisions for railway as well as textile and garment sectors.
Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Anurag Thakur briefed the media on the decisions taken after the cabinet meeting, that was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Here are the key announcements:
Bonus for railway employees
* Productivity-linked bonus equivalent to 78 days' wage will be given to non-gazetted employees in railway sector.
* The bonus for financial year 2020-21 will benefit about 11.56 lakh non-gazetted railway employees.
* Centre will incur an expenditure of nearly Rs 1,985 crore on this.
Textile and garment sector
* The cabinet approved setting up of 7 Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks with a total outlay of Rs 4,445 crore in the next five years.
* The move will provide 7 lakh direct and 14 lakh indirect jobs.
* PM Mitra will be developed by a special purpose vehicle owned by state governments and the central government in PPP mode.
* It will leverage 5F power: Farm to fiber; fiber to factory; factory to fashion; and fashion to foreign
* The scheme will enable spinning, weaving, processing, dyeing and printing and garment manufacturing at one location.
* It will also reduce logistics cost by locating entire value chain at one location.
* Mitra parks will be setup at greenfield and brownfield sited located in states who are willing to participate. So far, 10 states have already shown interest.
* Support worth Rs 500 crore will be given by Centre to all greenfield and Rs 200 crore will be given to brownfield Mitra parks for development.
