Donald Trump praised Tyson Fury for beating Deontay Wilder with ‘very different’ body shape, but didn’t know much about Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk

Donald Trump heaped praise on Tyson Fury during his alternative commentary of the Evander Holyfield vs Vitor Belfort last month.

The former US President watched the Triller show from start to finish and gave his thoughts on the heavyweight division while witnessing David Haye make a comeback.

Trump previously hosted Deontay Wilder at the White House and intended to invite Fury to visit after his victory in their rematch last year, only for the pandemic to scrap all such plans.

Regarding Fury’s first fight with Wilder, Trump said: “That was a fight where people were shocked, because you look at body type.

“Deontay was like the most perfect physical specimen.

“Fury went down, I thought he was out and all of a sudden he just jumped up.

“Then he fought him the second time and it was no contest.

“He’s a good fighter and he’s got a very different kind of a body…

“Well he had a great win. He was given no chance. And body type, that’s not type for a fighter you don’t think.

“But he was so loose, he’s really a good fighter. And he’s a big guy, tall, 6ft 8ins, 6ft 9ins.

“He’s a very good fighter. Just different kind of a look, right?

“His opponent looked so beautiful that night, but it didn’t work out. Fury’s a really good fighter.

“The funny thing is Deontay was never even slightly wounded [in his previous fights], like 30-0 or something.

“But he didn’t do well. It [the power] didn’t work against Fury.”

Trump was then asked about the upcoming trilogy fight, live on talkSPORT this weekend, and added: “That will be very interesting.”

When talk came around to the other heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, Trump appeared to know nothing about the pair.

When that bout was mentioned, his co-commentators had to give context to the former President who simply asked: “And how are they?”

talkSPORT will have live and exclusive radio commentary of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 from Las Vegas on October 9.
