Ponda: A 17-year-old girl from Nagzar Curti in Ponda taluka has died of suspected dengue while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Ponda health officer Dr Smita Parsekar said the girl died of suspected dengue, and that confirmation report on the exact cause of the death is awaited.
Sources revealed that the girl had tested positive for dengue in a rapid test. She had been having fever in the last few days. Her grandfather had passed away a few days back.
When her fever went out of control, the family rushed the girl to a hospital, from where she was shifted to the GMC.
But the girl died while undergoing treatment on Monday.
Dr Parsekar said that there are a few active cases of dengue at Curti. Locals said that there have been suspected dengue cases in the area, claiming that the health department is not taking the dengue incidence seriously.
