Feathery brows, wispy lashes, the wash of shimmer on her lids that’s only visible when it catches the light and lip gloss that’s just the right level of shiny—there are many reasons to admire Sara Ali Khan's recent look. There’s also a lot to learn from it. Her sheer, almost invisible-looking base lets all the other elements stand out. But it takes the right combination of products and techniques to get that right. A solid pre-makeup skincare routine is a good place to start. For a step-by-step on the rest of the look, keep reading.

- After cleansing, massage a priming moisturiser like the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte's Magic Cream all over the face to create a smooth, hydrated canvas. Go over it with a sunscreen of your choice if you’re going to be out in the daytime.
- For a barely-there base, apply a light tinted moisturiser like the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30, using your fingers to work the product into the skin. Dot concealer under the eyes and on any other spots you want to cover up, and with your ring finger, pat it in until fully blended. Then, with a small powder brush, press an illuminating setting powder like the e.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Setting Powder around the nose, T-zone and under the eyes. Make sure you’re using the slightest amount so the powder does the job of setting your makeup without looking too obvious.
- Use a brow pencil like the Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil to fill in gaps in your brows using feather-light strokes. You could also replicate Ali Khan’s soft freckles by dotting the bridge of the nose and the cheeks using the same brow pencil. Pat the faux freckles with your fingers to make them look natural. Next, use a gel like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Gel in Dark Brown through the brows to set them in place.
- For the eyes, dab a hint of a warm shimmery eyeshadow like the Victoria Beckham Beauty Lid Lustre in Honey all over the eyelids. Apply sparingly—a light wash is all you need. Tightline the eyes with a waterproof eyeliner pencil. Then, curl your lashes and apply a coat of mascara on both top and bottom lashes. To make them look extra fluttery, you could also stick on a few short individual lashes like the Ardell Individual Knot Free Short Black Eye Lashes in the centre and outer corners of the eyes.
- Gently exfoliate your lips before applying a coat of a creamy nude lip gloss like the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Liquid Lip Gloss in Nude Beam. Lastly, spritz on a setting mist like the Glamglow Glowsetter Makeup Setting Spray for an extra dose of glow.
