Delhi Capitals off-spinner R. Ashwin opened up about his verbal exchange with Eoin Morgan and Tim Southee during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders last week.
The exchange, which took place after Ashwin’s dismissal, followed a sequence during which Ashwin and Rishabh Pant took a run off an overthrow that had deflected off the DC captain.
Speaking about it on Monday after his side’s win over CSK, Ashwin said, “I think it is definitely not a personal battle or one-on-one battle.
“The incident that happened the other day was, I got really charged up because that was entirely untoward by both Tim Southee and Eoin Morgan to give the batter a send-off who just got out.
Not aware
“The worst situation was that I was not aware that the ball had hit Rishabh, so I just felt like that they already decided to have a go at me. That is one of the reasons I said that the words that were used were not in the right direction and not in the right space,” he added.
“I would not say anyone is wrong here, it is just that the sort of way the game was played in the 1940s cannot be the same way you want somebody else to apply it.
“My two cents to this is, I am sure you like to play the game the way you want to, but do not expect that [from others], if it is not within the laws of the game, and have a go at them for unnecessary reasons.”
