Cardiovascular Disease is the most prevalent cause of mortality and morbidity in diabetic patients. 60% of the deaths caused due to diabetes are attributable to CVD. CVD death rates are 1.7 times higher among adults with diabetes vs. without diabetes.
In this video, Dr. Banshi Saboo talks about the bidirectional relationship between diabetes and diabetic cardiomyopathy and the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases in people with diabetes. He explains why pre-diabetics are a wake-up call for clinicians and the presence of prediabetes increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular events and therefore emphasized its aggressive treatment. Dr. Saboo also discussed some contributors to CHD burden in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with increased lesion complexity, increased coronary calcifications, and decreased coronary vasodilatory reserve.
