Virgil van Dijk’s amazing reaction to Mohamed Salah’s wonder goal against Manchester City revealed, as Liverpool defender is left in disbelief by ‘Messi-like’ solo strike

Virgil van Dijk has been captured in sheer disbelief at Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah’s astonishing goal against Manchester City.

Salah scored one of his greatest ever goals when he left the City defence for dead, before unleashing an unstoppable strike off his weaker foot past a helpless Ederson.

The 29-year-old’s incredible solo effort was only good enough for a point, though, with a title clash packed with quality seeing Kevin De Bruyne bag a late equaliser in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

The Egyptian has previously won FIFA’s Puskas Award for the best goal of the year, taking the crown for a curling effort against Everton in the Premier League back in 2018.

However, his strike to put Liverpool 2-1 up against City was arguably better, creating the goal out of nothing and leaving one of the world’s best defences in his dust.

Salah’s brilliance has also seen the Egyptian King hailed as one of the Premier League’s best ever players, one of Liverpool’s best ever players, and as ‘the closest thing to Lionel Messi’ English football has ever seen.

And the goal was so good that even Reds centre-back Van Dijk – who obviously witnesses Salah’s skill on a daily basis – was left in utter shock, as revealed by a video released by Liverpool that shows every angle of the incredible effort.

The compilation shows the Dutch defender raising his arms in disbelief, before turning around to Liverpool’s bench to check he wasn’t dreaming, and lap up the celebrations from jubilant fans.

Salah’s goal wasn’t the only moment of quality in the game, with City’s 21-year-old Englishman Phil Foden tearing up Liverpool’s defence, performing a beautiful tight-angle finish before later setting up De Bruyne’s equaliser.

But Salah’s strike will be one that lives long in the memory, with it prompting some to call him the best player in the world on current form.

Scouse midfielder Curtis Jones was equally impressed by Salah’s goal, clearly entertained by what he’d just seen, while Jurgen Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders couldn’t stop himself jumping on the pitch to celebrate.

Man City goalkeeper Ederson was also seen shaking his head at what he’d just witnessed before muttering ‘f***’ in his native Portuguese.

We’ve seen some iconic reactions to incredible goals in the past, with legendary managers Bobby Robson and Zinedine Zidane left stunned by both the Brazilian Ronaldo, as well as Cristiano.

Salah’s one-man destruction of City was just as iconic, prompting calls for the Reds’ hierarchy to break their wage structure to keep the Egyptian phenomenon.

Salah’s current deal at Anfield runs out in the summer of 2023, with negotiations reportedly underway for a club-record £500,000-per-week contract extension.
