Man City have made an official complaint about an incident involving alleged ‘spitting’ from a Liverpool supporter towards their backroom staff during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield.
Despite a dominant first half, the Premier League champions twice went behind in the second period, but responded with two equalisers and salvaged a point at Anfield late on.
After the match though, it was announced on Sky: “Manchester City have made an official complaint around some fan disturbance from the Liverpool supporters today.”
It has since been widely reported that this was an alleged ‘spitting’ incident.
The Liverpool Echo, reports Liverpool have already launched an investigation.
When asked about the situation, Pep Guardiola told Sky: “I don’t know what happened.
“I heard something from the crowd, they said something not nice to our staff, but I don’t know exactly, I didn’t see the images.
“But I am pretty sure if what happened – from what the people told me -Liverpool FC will take measures about this person. Liverpool is much, much greater than this behaviour.
“The same what happened two/three years ago when they destroyed our bus when we come here – it’s certain people, not just Liverpool FC.”
City dominated the first half with Foden forcing Alisson into action on two occasions while Kevin De Bruyne’s free header sailed wide of the Liverpool goal.
But Liverpool took the lead just shy of the hour with a neat finish from Sadio Mane. City hit back with Foden’s precise strike on 68 minutes.
Mohamed Salah’s incredible solo goal gave the Reds the lead again but De Bruyne’s curling effort saw the match finish 2-2.
