Hyderabad: The storm’s storm surge, linked to cyclone Gulab, which crossed the coast at midnight, wreaking havoc on parts of Telangana. The cyclone on Monday caused several low-lying areas in the city to be flooded with heavy rains flooding several areas with water, prompting the director of the GHMC’s Enforcement of Vigilance and Disaster Management (EV&DM) to keep people inside.
The rain, which started around 07:00, continued throughout the day, drowning in several places, affecting the traffic and also entering the basements of several apartments in different areas. There were reports of heavy rains in Dilsukhnagar, Kapra, Mehdipatnam, Malakpet and Jubilee Hills. There are also signs of thunder and lightning in some areas.
According to data released by the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) at 19:00 in Hyderabad, the highest rainfall was 101.8 mm in Rajendra Nagar, followed by 75.5 mm in Ramchanderpuram and Patancheruvu, 75.3 mm in Malakpet, 74.5 mm in Kapra and the lowest rainfall of 2.8 mm in Malkajgiri.
By 19:00 in the state, the largest rainfall of 151.5 mm was reported in Bachodu in the Khammam district, followed by 113.8 mm in Mallampalli in the Mulugu district and 101.8 mm in Rajendranagar in the Ranga Reddy district .
For the next 24 hours in the state very heavy to extremely heavy rain is expected in the districts of Kamareddy, Nizamabad, heavy to very heavy rain is expected over Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Medak, moderate to heavy rain is expected over Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Siddipet, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, light to moderate rainfall is expected all over the state. IMD also issued a flood warning for Telangana for the next 24 hours.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which issued a high warning the day before, has prepared ground-level teams. DRH and monsoon teams from the GHMC have already started working in busy areas. The Indian Meteorological Department also warned on Monday against heavy to very heavy rain in Hyderabad for the next two days, i.e. 28 September and 29 September due to the cyclone.
According to his weather report, the impact of cyclone Gulab could last until September 29. The maximum temperatures are expected to be between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperatures will be between 20 and 22 degrees. Celsius, TSDPS said.
Vishwajit Kampati, director of vigilance and enforcement of the GHMC, also instructed the commissioners, deputy commissioners and department heads to take the necessary steps. He advised them to be especially vigilant to the interior. The staff of the civilian body was also instructed to act immediately to respond to calls and to ensure that boats, pumps, other necessary equipment and machinery were made available.
For this purpose, a control room has been set up in the collector of Hyderabad. Citizens are advised to contact the helpline number 040-220 2813 if necessary. According to the latest regulations, two officers should be available in the collector. Collector L. Sharman issued instructions to respond immediately to the phones.
During the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 118.8 mm was recorded in Kamepalle, Khammam district, the highest maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius recorded at Nagula Vancha, Khammam district and the lowest minimum temperature of 21.8 degrees. Celsius recorded in Bantwaram, Vikarabad district.
During the past 24 hours in Hyderabad, the highest rainfall of 11.3 mm was recorded at Kapra (circle no 1, Kapra), the highest maximum temperature of 30.9 degrees Celsius according to Ganaanka Bhavan (circle no 17, Khairatabad) and the lowest minimum temperature of 23.0 degrees Celsius recorded at Jubilee Hills (Circle No. 18, Jubilee Hills).
