India roundup: Firms invest big in green energy

India has seen record growth in smart TV demand and large investments in the green energy sector. Government subsidies have attracted 19 firms, mostly Indian, to invest in solar energy.

India shows record high growth in smart TV shipments

Smart TV shipments in India increased by 65% on year in the second quarter, the highest increase ever, following an 55% increase in the previous quarter, as demand surged, according to Counterpoint Research.

Large enterprises invest big in green energy

Adani Group said it will invest US$20 billion in green energy within the next 10 years, following Reliance Industries' announcement of its US$10 billion-quest in solar energy and battery cells. Tata Power is also said to be investing US$750 million in green energy.

India's PLI for solar power attracted 19 firms

India's INR45 billion (US$61 million) production-linked incentive scheme (PLI) for high-efficiency solar energy has opened registration on Sep 21. Business Standard cited sources as saying that most applicants are local enterprises including Reliance Industries and Adani and American firm First Solar.

Google fights India for antitrust accusations

Google sued the Competition Committee of India (CCI) for illegally leaking an investigation report in which CCI alleged that Google abused its dominance in the Android market to diminish device manufacturers' ability and incentive to develop and sell alternate versions of the operating system, according to Reuters.

OnePlus and Oppo continue to collaborate in India

According to Economic Times, China-based electronics maker OnePlus founder Peter Lau said they will continue to consolidate with Oppo in India. OnePlus has a large innovation center in India, the biggest one among all its overseas innovation centers. The two companies have previously announced that they are integrating their operating systems, Oxygen OS and Color OS.
