Bharat Bandh: Rahul Gandhi backs farmers, slams govt as exploitative

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday extended support to the Bharat Bandh called by the farmers who have been protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws at Delhi borders for the last 10 months.

Extending support to the farmers’ Bharat Bandh call, Gandhi used hashtag #IStandWithFarmers and tweeted that the farmers’ non-violent satyagraha is still resolute but the exploitative government does not like this and that is why a Bharat Bandh has been called.

To support farmer’s Bharat Band call, the Congress asked all its workers, state unit chiefs and heads of frontal organisations to take part in the Bandh. Not only Congress but several political parties are also showing support for the nationwide 10-hour Bandh called by farmers.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait on Sunday said farmers are ready to protest for 10 years, but will not allow the black legislations to be implemented.

There were no results after 11 rounds of talks between the government and the farmer unions to break the deadlock and end the farmers’ protest. They had the last meeting on January 22.

After several rounds of talks with farmer unions, the government had offered to amend the laws but the farmers had rejected the offer black laws should be completely repealed.

Talks have not resumed following widespread violence during a tractor rally by protesting farmers on January 26.
