Prayagraj: Over 73% of dengue cases in urban areas

PRAYAGRAJ: With more than 73 percent dengue cases reported from urban areas, the officials of health department are running from pillar to post to find out the root cause behind the spread of the vector-borne disease.
Out of 231 cases, 170 cases were reported from urban areas and rest 61 from rural areas including trans Ganga and trans Yamuna. However, 213 of them have recovered while 10 are still hospitalised. The city has reported only one death due to the disease. Health authorities on Sunday claimed to have sent around 50 samples to MLN Medical college for testing every day.
District Malaria Officer (DMO) Anand Kumar Singh said we have intensified anti larva spraying and fogging in identified pockets (hotspots) for dengue cases and things are under control. He, however, said health teams are interacting with denizens to make them aware about vector-borne diseases in different parts of the district.
People are being briefed about the factors that are responsible for mosquito breeding and causing vector-borne diseases. The fact is that the mosquito-borne disease has been taking a grip on the city since the floods and cases of viral fever have also witnessed a rise in many areas in the past few days.
Focus is being shifted towards localities including MLN medical college campus, Sulemsarai, Shivkuti, Chandpur Salori, Chota Baghara amd Naini areas where more cases were reported, he added.
DMO, however, said the department has laid stress to spread awareness on dengue and other vector-borne diseases. The health department has already stepped up its surveillance and stressed on the cleanliness drives for the prevention of further spread of disease.
