Hyderabad: About 100 members of the Congress Party and 50 of other leftists were arrested in Hyderabad today as they took part in trying to force the Bharat Bandh call made by farmers’ groups, protesting against the three farming laws passed by Narendra Modi , adopted by the country Parliament last year.
Despite the call for the bandh, TSRTC buses, taxi services, car rickshaws and other transportation services drove on the road as usual in the city. However, the movement of people was somewhat curtailed due to the incessant rainstorm due to the cyclone Gulab that hit Hyderabad and Telangana.
Even after calls from various unions in the city and across the state, all commercial enterprises and business houses operated normally. In response, workers from many parties fall on the roads to enforce strict compliance with the band.
Syed Nizamuddin, spokesperson for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, said all parties had appealed to the Bharat Bandh and that it had been done successfully. However, police stopped some workers from applying the tape by arresting them.
Nizamuddin said Congress had protested at Musheerabad, Koti, Uppal, Khairatabad, Gandhi Bhavan and Erragadda. TPCC chief Revanth Reddy led the protests at Uppal.
Shaikh Mahamood of the Communist Party of India (CPI) said police were detained at Koti intersections, left-wing workers, Congress, Telangana Janasena (TJS) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He said about 50 political workers had been arrested and detained at the Afzalgunj police station.
