The rumor mill for the iPhone 14 started early, even before the official launch of the iPhone 13-series. Interestingly, we are hearing all sorts of predictable things about the next big series, solely because this year’s refresh wasn’t big enough, and this leaves room for imagination.
Reportedly, Apple is betting on big things. We might have some sketchy reports on the iPhone 14, but there are details from some prolific and reliable people as well. Last week, a report from Kuo, a famous Apple analyst shared his key hardware expectations for the next year's models. And, now, very reliable Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has kind of backed up the story.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman has outlined some points that explain why an overhaul is so foreseeable. He first asserts how Apple has given no reasons for the existing iPhone 12 users to upgrade and concludes that “Apple will have to get more dramatic with next year’s overhaul, especially as competition mounts.” This simply indicates that iPhone 14 will receive some major upgrades.
Note that the report doesn’t divulge specifics like Kuo’s recent report. It just highlights and backs up what every one of us is expecting to see as well.
He further says that Apple didn’t make any big changes to this year’s models because the engineers are “working behind the scenes on bigger things,” possibly for the iPhone 14 models. The report only mentions that the entry-level and Pro models of the upcoming iPhone 14 models will receive a complete redesign.
Earlier this month, Jon Prosser, a tipster with a hit-and-miss record in sharing details on Apple's upcoming products, did talk about the specifics, including a hole-punch display and a pretty shallow camera module that is flushed completely inside the rear panel. Prosser points out the two things that we all Apple fans have been craving. But we should take these details with a pinch of salt. But, if it happens, this is going to be quite an extensive change.
We believe we will hear more about the same in the coming days. But take things with a pinch of salt until something substantial comes up.
