NCP minister and spokesperson Nawab Malik on Monday led his party workers in the Bharat Bandh in support of the farmers’ protest against the three farm laws. He participated in a protest at the Sion Circle in Sion East, Mumbai.
At Aurangabad, state NCP president Jayant Patil along with party workers demonstrated by wearing black badges. At Solapur, CPI(M) workers lead by senior state leader Adam Master came out on the streets to protest against farm laws.
Meanwhile, Mumbai on Sunday recorded 479 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday and five fatalities. With 481 new recoveries, the total number of active cases in the city stood at 4,667.
In other news, the Thane police, probing a case of a 15-year-old girl’s gangrape by 33 people over eight months, arrested three more persons on Sunday. “With these three arrests, the police have managed nab a total of 32 people including two minors. We are on the lookout for one more person who has been identified,” said a police officer.
BJP MLA Ashish Shelar asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) why it has allocated Rs 48 crore for filling up potholes in the city, if there were only 927 potholes on Mumbai’s 2,000-km roads as the civic body claims on its portal.
The BJP leader said the Shiv Sena had claimed to provide pothole-free roads to Mumbaikars. “The BMC is mocking itself. The status of roads is no secret. Any individual who steps out knows the condition of the roads. Thanks to the Sena regime, accidents due to water-filled potholes have become frequent,” he said.

A 15-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured when their motorcycle skidded and hit a road divider on the newly-constructed Bandra Worli Sealink-BKC flyover, police said.
The deceased was riding the motorcycle and two of his friends - all minors - were riding pillion at the time of the accident in the wee hours, an official said, adding that none of them was wearing a helmet. (PTI)

The girl was allegedly gang-raped multiple times over a period of eight months in Thane district. The alleged incidents took place at different locations, including Dombivli, Badlapur, Murbad and Rabale, between January 29 and September 22 this year.
State BJP chief Chandrakant Patil consulted party members and took a collective decision on the matter at the party’s core committee meeting. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of sitting Congress MP Rajiv Satav in May.
Last week, state Congress president Nana Patole and Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat had met Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis at his residence in Mumbai requesting the BJP candidate’s withdrawal. While the saffron party had fielded its Mumbai general secretary Sanjay Upadhyay, former MP Rajni Patil is in the fray for the Congress which has projected her as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate.

Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya on Monday said that he would not backtrack from his earlier announcement of touring Kolhapur on September 27 and 28, and from filing a complaint against rural development minister Hassan Mushriff.
Last week, Somaiya was detained in his Mumbai house and later in Karad district by police. He was not allowed to travel to Kolhapur. Kolhapur district collector Rahul Rekhawar had issued an order banning his entry into the district citing the issue of law and order.
The BJP leader said, “I will file a complaint against Mushriff for committing fraud in two sugar mills – Sar Senapati Sugar Factory and Appasaheb Nalawade Gadhinglaj Sugar Factory. The complaint will be filed with the Murud police station in Kagal constituency of Kolhapur district.” Read more.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is searching the office of Shiv Sena leader and former MP Anandrao Adsul in connection with an alleged Rs 980-crore fraud at City Co-operative Bank. The agency had summoned him and his son Abhijeet Adsul to appear before it on Monday, however, the ED began searching the office of Adsul earlier this morning after the Shiv Sena politician expressed his inability to appear before the agency due to prior engagements in Delhi.
The ED probe on City Co-operative Bank is based on a complaint by Adsul, the former chairman of the bank, with the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police alleging misappropriation of funds through loans and illegal transfers by the bank officials. Adsul had alleged that loans were doled out to entities and individuals with very low or no collateral. Read more.
A total of 8.48 lakh cases, including 7.2 lakh pre-litigation cases and 63,420 pending cases, were settled before the Lok-Adalats. The cases were settled during the programme of the second National Lok Adalat of this year held on Saturday across Maharashtra. The total settlement amount was around Rs 1,317.59 crore.
Nearly 33.33 lakh pre-litigation and 3.98 lakh pending cases before various courts were taken up in the Lok Adalats organised through the three high courts, 34 district and 309 taluka legal services authorities/committees. Read more.
Saying that Naxals are no longer confined to remote forests and have begun to target developed areas, former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that “urban Naxal” remains a challenge for both state and central governments.
“Naxal operation requires a combined centre-state strategy,” he added.
Fadnavis’ remarks come in the wake of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s meeting with state Chief Ministers on Sunday to review security situation and development projects in Naxal-affected areas. Six Chief Ministers including Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray participated in the meeting. Read more.
A 32-year-old doctor was duped of Rs 15,000 by two cyber-fraudsters who impersonated as executives from Nykaa, a cosmetics retail store, and tricked her into transferring the money on the pretext of giving her a 40 per cent cashback and an iPhone as a gift for her online purchases.
The complainant, who works at a government hospital in Mumbai, had lodged an FIR with the Kalachowkie police station on September 25. She told the police that she received a phone call on September 22 from a woman who posed as an executive from Nykaa and offered her a 40 per cent cash back if she buys products worth Rs 5,000. A 26-year-old student from Andheri (East) who tried to help his mother sell an old counting machine on online marketplace OLX for Rs 5,000 allegedly ended up being duped of Rs 1.26 lakh by a cyber fraudster. The complainant’s mother on September 25 had given an advertisement on OLX to sell their old counting machine and the same day received a phone call from a person expressing willingness to buy it.
The person asked for his e-wallet account details to complete the purchase. According to the complaint, the person said he couldn’t transfer the money first since his was an Army account and won the student’s trust by sending Rs 200 after receiving Rs 100. Read more.
