Miscommunication led to Shubman Gill being run out in the first doubleheader clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener had on the previous ball granted a lifeline after reviewing his wicket of LBW.

However, on the very next ball, Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) Ambati Rayudu made sure the KKR young-gun was sent back. Rayudu fired a direct hit from short mid-wicket after the mixup between the two batsmen.

The ball had been lobbed towards the on-side as the right-hander missed out on his nudge and Gill had set off for a run. He was almost halfway down the track, but Iyer backed away and sent Gill back. The young lad tried to save himself with a dive, but Rayudu was bang on with his throw.
