Two entertainers graced the stage at Amelia Farm & Market in Beaumont on Friday night that some fans may recognize from television.
Attendees had a chance to sing along with Ice Seguerra, a Filipino actor, singer and songwriter, and Vaughn Mogul, a Beaumont nurse who is competing on NBC’s “The Voice,” during the private event. The event was hosted by six producers, including Philippine Association of Beaumont Texas, at the venue located 8600 Dishman Rd.
In addition to singing, Seguerra discussed the coronavirus pandemic, which still has the Philippines on lockdown.
Seguerra said he has missed events like this one and being together with people, including family and friends. He shared a hope that people could continue to show unity and kindness throughout the difficult times.
“We need one another,” Seguerra said. “I hope we can rise above our differences and enjoy one another’s company.”
Shortly before Seguerra serenaded the audience, Mogul shared his talent with the crowd.
As soon as the performance ended, 8-year-old Danielle Fernandez, of Beaumont, joined several smiling children who gave him a big group hug, which Mogul cheerfully accepted.
“Vaughn is a close family friend,” Danielle’s mother, Cindy Fernandez, said. “She always loves to watch him singing, and she also wants to join ‘The Voice’ like Vaughn, who is like her big brother. She loves him.”
Annabelle Boling, also of Beaumont, was excited to enjoy the entertainment.
“This is like a get together for all of the Filipinos in the area,” she said. “Since the pandemic, we haven’t been able to gather for the last almost two years, and this is the very first event that we have had. ‘Ice’ is well-known in the Philippines. … And Vaughn is a family friend of ours.”
Kevin Elgar, one of the event’s production team members, said he’s followed Seguerra since high school. He described Seguerra as a “child wonder” who went into singing. In disbelief the popular performer was in Beaumont, Elgar was excited to see the performance up close — something that would be difficult to experience in the Philippines.
“It’s amazing,” Elgar said. “It can almost say it is like a dream come true.”
Elgar said the producers were happy to share the event with the attendees, especially those who may be missing the Philippines.
“We need something like this … It gives everybody a chance to get close to each other and have a chance to experience togetherness through (Seguerra’s) songs. Because everybody can really at any age (relate).”
They also were happy to host Mogul.
“We were very surprised and very thankful that Filipino talents are being presented to the world the way it is because ‘The Voice’ is watched all around the world,” Elgar said. “We are proud of him.”
