Kapurthala: An old man was seriously injured in a collision between a car and a bicycle near the Khojewal village, located on the Jalandhar Road, falling under the Wadala police post. The car driver informed the kin of the injured about the accident and took him to a private hospital in Jalandhar for treatment. After the first aid, doctors referred him to another hospital, where the victim died during treatment. The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Mand, Jalandhar. Ajit Singh, brother of the deceased, said his brother had left the house for cycling. When he reached near Khojewal, a vehicle bearing registration number PB08BM-5020, coming from Jalandhar, and driven by Vikas Sharma, a resident of Basti Sheikh, Jalandhar, hit him from behind. The victim lost his balance and fell. A case has been registered against the car driver. TNS
Hockey trials for girls on Sept 27, 28
Jalandhar: The Sports Department of the state government will hold trials for women players for admission in the women’s wing of Surjit Hockey Academy for session 2021-22 from September 27. Gurpreet Singh, District Sports Officer, said if any player would not be able to appear for trials on the date, she would be able to give trials on the next day. Trials would be conducted at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women from 8 am onwards. The participants have been asked to bring along their original birth certificates and attested copies of their sports achievements along with two passport-size photographs. TNS
MLA visits Baba Farid shrine
Jalandhar: Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri on Friday visited the historic site of Baba Sheikh Farid where he had stayed for 40 days and meditated. Beri was accompanied by Jabbar Khan, a member of the Building and Other Construction Welfare Board. He said the place had great historical importance and that he would try to get it notified with the Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department for its upkeep. TNS
