Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers reacts to being booed for substitution as Jamie Vardy scores unusual ‘hat-trick’ in draw with Burnley

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has said he will accept fans booing his decision to substitute Ademola Lookman against Burnley.

The Foxes drew 2-2 with the Clarets and their summer loan signing impressed in his first Premier League start.

He wasn’t able to last the full 90 minutes, being taken off and replaced by James Maddison.

The move was met by booing from sections of the King Power Stadium, who were enjoying Lookman’s display as they hunted a winner.

But Rodgers isn’t unhappy about that, insisting it’s one of the first signs of dissent during his tenue, and about something which needed to happen.

“That’s what happens sometimes,” he said after the clash.

“We’ve been together, what, two and three-quarters years so to, maybe, get the first boo is okay. I’ll take that after that length of time.

“I think it was one where Ade [Lookman] has done great, he’s played in the week, he’s getting up to speed fitness-wise. He’s then played today and he was reaching for some gels and starting to tire. So we just wanted to, after about 70 minutes, get a fresh pair of legs into the game.”

Jamie Vardy also had an eventful game in the 2-2 draw netting an unusual hat-trick as he opened the scoring – but for Burnley, before adding a brace for Leicester.

And Rodgers always knew his star man would respond well after the own goal.

“There is no doubt in his mentality, that is for sure,” he said.

“He was unfortunate with the [own] goal. It’s a great ball in, he just gets in below it a little bit.

“His two goals were great movement, good team goals, playing through their team.

“I thought his second finish was outstanding. He’s wide in the box and finishes it really well.”
