Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s is under real pressure following another disappointing result at Old Trafford.
A late Kortney Hause header gave Aston Villa their first away win in 12 years against the Red Devils, although that would have been denied had Bruno Fernandes converted a late penalty.
It’s fair to say Solskjaer will be glad to see the back of this week following their defeat to West Ham United in the third round of the EFL Cup and then this latest setback.
Man United huffed and puffed to find the opener but were unable to breakdown Dean Smith’s side, and couldn’t get the ball to star man Cristiano Ronaldo in dangerous situations.
As the 11 players on the pitch were not able to force the opening, Solskjaer began to receive criticism from his supporters for not making changes sooner, while after the defeat ‘Sack Ole’ trended on Twitter.
And his management of the game came under fire from former Premier League ace Micky Gray and talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.
Harry Maguire had been struggling with a calf problem but his mangaer waited to make a change before he succumbed to the injury, and Crook wasn’t impressed
He said: “A criticism of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from some sections of the Manchester United fans that he isn’t reactive enough.
“We’ve been saying for the last ten minutes Maguire is not fit enough to continue, why has it taken ten minutes for Ole to come to the same conclusion?
“Well that’s where the manager has to make the decision Alex,” added Gray.
“If you say to Harry ‘are you okay?’ he’s going to nod and he’s going to say ‘yes I’m fine I want to continue’.
“The manager has then got to say to himself ‘well you’re not, I’ve got to make that change’ that’s why he’s got international players on the bench to come on.”
Whilst it was unfortunate that he had to make two substitutions due to injury, the one final change he had was conducted in the 82nd minute.
Edinson Cavani, after returning from injury, was thrust onto the pitch with eight minutes to go to try and find a winning goal.
Unfortunately for him, his team mates, and his manager no goal arrived as Villa recorded a famous victory at Old Trafford and piled on the pressure on Solskjaer.
