Anthony Joshua backs Deontay Wilder to KO Tyson Fury in trilogy fight as he changes prediction

Anthony Joshua has now changed his prediction for Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3.

The unified WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight world champion will defend his belts against Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night and, whatever happens, will be a keen observer when the WBC title is contested on October 9.

Fury is a big favourite in the trilogy bout after dominating the American in their rematch last year.

When he spoke to talkSPORT in June, Joshua initially backed his fellow Brit to win again.

“Fury won the last one so I’ll go with Fury because you’re only as good as your last performance,” he told White and Jordan.

“Good luck to them both.”

Now though, three months down the line, his opinion has changed.

“I’m not too bothered,” Joshua told reporters on Wednesday.

“Look, because you’ve asked the question, let’s go with Wilder because he seems obsessed, like he really wants it.

“He seems really focused on the task ahead, so, you know, a focused man is a dangerous man and he’s focused.

“Wilder might get the decision. Actually, no, it has to be a knockout.”

Joshua vs Fury is the fight everyone wants to see, and would be one of the biggest British fights in history.

But Joshua, 31, insists he would be happy to face Fury or Wilder should he come through his tough test against Usyk this weekend.

“I’ve got a rematch clause [against Usyk] if the worst happens. I’m not too sure of Fury’s situation, so I lose I’m fighting Usyk again,” he said.

“The undisputed gets put on hold. If I win, I’ll fight either one of them. If Fury wins, I’ll fight Fury.

“But if Wilder wins, I’ll fight Wilder. If Fury wins and doesn’t take the fight with me, because on his [stated] hit list he said he wants to fight Dillian [Whyte] first or [Derek] Chisora, then I’ll fight Wilder.

“Honestly, there’s no problem with challenging any fighter in the heavyweight division.”
