A police dog helped officers sniff out a felony drug bust during a traffic stop on Thursday night.
Around 10:00pm, officers with the Port Arthur Police Department, with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, stopped 35-year-old Paul Bartee, of Groves, in the 5200 block of Hwy 73 for traffic violations.
“During the course of the stop, K9 Duc was deployed and utilized to sniff the exterior of the vehicle,” a PAPD news release said. “The K9 alerted the presence of a narcotic odor coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was then conducted and approximately 8 1/2 pounds of what officers suspected to be methamphetamine (4 kilos) was located.”
PAPD said officers also found a handgun inside the vehicle and the substance found during the traffic stop tested positive for methamphetamine.
Bartee was arrested and charged with manufacture/delivery of more than 200 grams but less than 400 grams of a controlled substance. He was taken to a Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
